Cooling System Capacity Test

Procedure:

  • Obtain the chloride concentration of the recirculating water – Cl(initial)
  • Shut off the blowdown
  • Add a known amount of salt. At least 0.5 pounds per 1000 gallons estimated.
  • Test chloride concentration at 15 minute intervals until chloride peaks – Cl(final)
  • Resume normal blowdown
  • Use the following formula to calculate the system volume in gallons:
Capacity (1000 gallons) = 72 * pounds of salt
Cl(final) – Cl(initial)
